Sylvain
Recently, Keiko and I took a little trip to The Big Easy, to speak on the NOLA Fashion Week panel on fashion blogging! We were accompanied by Christine from My Style Pill and Lindsay from Saucy Glossie. The entire experience was incredible, and probably too good for a single entry.
While in New Orleans, I made a point to eat as much food as possible - I think I gained somewhere around 10 pounds (worth it). One of my favorite restaurants was Sylvain, in The French Quarters.
This place blew us away. Tucked away on Chartres Street, you’d probably walk past Sylvain without even knowing. So, knowing what you now know, please make it a point to go there, if you ever venture into NOLA. I’m sure that the photographs speak for themselves, but multiply how good everything looks by a bagillion, and that’s about how good the overall experience was.
We were greeted with a champagne toast, appetizers to start, booze, entrees, more booze, desert and booze.
If you’re like me, searching endlessly for that perfect Sazerac cocktail, search no more. The cocktail technicians at Sylvain are just as known for their drinks as the chefs are known for their food. PJ’s Sazerac was easily the best I’d had my entire trip - and I had plenty. I even got a picture with him. The kid’s got skills. He followed my drinks with complimentary cocktails for everybody else, too! His beautiful Gin Fizz really caught everybody’s attention.
If you go there - which you will - you have to get their fried eggplant with grated parmesan and lemon aioli. Oh, God, how good could one thing be? Even the pickle plate was incredible. But how can you go wrong with pickled okra? I had the pan-roasted sea scallops, which were perfect and Keiko had their asparagus and poached farmer’s egg salad. And there is no better way to end your meal than with a nice big Root Beer Float, made with Abita root beet.
I can’t wait to go back to New Orleans and when I do, this will definitely be a place I’ll stop by.
